Languages taught

Learning modern languages is a major issue in the Strasbourg Regional Education Authority area. Learning a modern language allows our pupils to discover other cultures, and is a considerable asset for their future professional integration.

A rich linguistic diversity

Alsace's historical and cultural heritage and its European role explain the importance of the international dimension of our academic area, starting with the richness and diversity of the languages taught.

The Strasbourg Education Authority area offers a range of language courses based on different schemes :

  • French/German bilingual education: the courses of several subjects are taught in German and/or in French ;
  • English/German dual language teaching : pupils learn English and German as their foreign languages, during their secondary school yearssome subjects ;
  • are taught in foreign languages (mathematics, history-geography, physical education, sciences ;
  • international education and the development of international academic careers from nursery school to the baccalaureate.

International Sections in Strasbourg

International sections (IS) offer a high-quality pedagogical and didactic framework for language teaching. They are conducive to the development of bilingual and multilingual skills, and give pupils a genuine aptitude for interculturality.
10 languages are taught alongside French in the education authority, mainly in Strasbourg and Mulhouse : German, American, Arabic, British, Korean, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Russian.
